Hi to '58 graduates

The reunion committee would like you to know we are moving right along with the classmates asking if its too late to register. NO it is not. We wanted you to know a few things that others have asked us about.

*Yes there are easily accessible ramps to get into the buildings and an elevator when you get in.  Go ahead and bring your best medium of getting around (walkers, wheel chairs, etc) and I won't be the only one using a walker for the old back.

*Don't bother to dress up, its all CASUAL.  I don't even think I have any dress up clothes anyway.  This is me and my favorite Eskimo Joe t-shirt.  There is no dancing or fancy entertainment.  We want everyone to be able to sit down and visit (no loud music either).  Bring your scrapbooks, photo albums, definitely a picture.  Don't forget to bring your best story since you graduated, the funnier the better.

Friday, Aug 24th, 6-10 pm CNB Center (the renovated Convention Hall...you will be amazed!)  Southside of Square, Casual dress, hors d'oeuvre, cash bar. 

Saturday, Aug 25th (Daytime event times yet to be set)  Trolley bus tour of Enid with commentary, H. T. Holden Gallery open house with coffee and cookies, Regional Heritage Museum tour, renovated EHS tour (new bldg and performance center under construction)

Cocktails and banquet dinner at the CNB Center, Benson Ballroom, (cash bar), then a brief program and lots of time to visit with your class mates!

Proposed Skate Park

Location: 400 W. State Ave.

Enid's skate park was built in 2001 utilizing CDBG funds. While this park is not large, it is surprisingly busy, frequented by skate boarders, skaters, and bikers. It is located at 401 W. State, near the Enid Police Department.
There is one covered pavilion available free of charge to the public. The pavilion is commonly used for small birthday parties or as a shelter for interested observers.

Proposed Soccer complex

One of the biggest sports complaints in Enid is the current location of the soccer complex. During heavy rains the fields fill with water and are unusable due to the fact that the complex is located in a water retention area.

Currently over 1,000 kids play soccer in the Enid area. Due to the nature of the current soccer complex Enid is unable to host tournaments with outside teams which means the city is losing those tax dollars that could be spent here rather than in other cities.

Local donors are looking to remedy that problem with a potential new soccer complex to be located on Garland south of Walmart. $3 million dollars has already been committed to the project from private donations. The complex could house 12 soccer fields with lighting, restrooms, concessions and a playground.

The proposed state of the art facility would also have a Championship Stadium and shade structures. The vision is to create a family park atmosphere with spaces for events as well. There will be 127 acres available for the complex with the possibility of adding footballs fields in the future.

Jessica Nelson, Director for the Enid Sports Association, gave a presentation during the Tuesday, November 7 City of Enid study session. The Enid Sports Association and city officials are putting together the exact cost of the project along with the annual upkeep.

Nelson said she would like to see at least 6 soccer tournaments in Enid each year. With tournament costs, hotels and food, the City of Enid could earn $255,000 in additional sales tax each year.

Trolley Time

The Chisholm Trail Coalition is a nonprofit organization made up of men and women from the Enid area who want to preserve the history of Enid, the Chisholm Trail and the land run of 1893 into the Cherokee Outlet. For years they have presented tours of downtown Enid with re-enactment characters and also Tombstone Tales in Enid’s oldest cemetery.

They are now ready to present to the Enid area, their latest method of touring historical sites around Enid and tours on the Chisholm Trail. Welcome their newest character, Chisholm Trail Trolley affectionately called “Trolley BOB”, after their benefactor of history, Mr. Bob Klemme.

The trolley will be available for tours, parties, weddings, proms, and shuttles, along with many other events. The Chisholm Trail Trolley should have it’s first tour on the Chisholm Trail set for sometime in late April.

The first viewing and rides in the Trolley will be in downtown Enid for First Friday, April, 6th, 2018. Cost of the rides will be by donation and will cover an area of  11 blocks of the downtown area. Loading and unloading will be at the corner of Randolph and Independence.

Reed Jack Keffer Passes Away

Reed Jack Keffer, age 77, passed away on Friday morning March 2, 2018 at home with his loving wife of 52 years by his side.  Reed was born in Enid, OK to Jackson Keffer and Laurita (Reed) Keffer on October 8, 1940. He graduated from Enid High School.

Reed married Cheramy 'Cher' (Deyoe) on January 8, 1966. He worked as a District Line Haul Manager for Roadway Trucking Company for many years, which took them to many different cities across the country. Moved to Oklahoma in 1989, where he worked for Greyhound Bus as Terminal Manager in Tulsa until 2000. Then he went to work for APAC Quarry as a Line Haul Manager, where he retired in 2005 at the age of 65.  Reed and Cher shared a passion for showing dogs and owning their own kennel, Chereed Akitas, located in the Claremore area. They were very successful in both the breeding world as well as the show ring. Their dogs won many awards over the years. Reed was also an AKC licensed Dog Show Judge, and in the 1980’s, he was elected as the ACA (Akita Club of America) National Specialty Akita Judge in Denver, CO. They made many friends over the years & enjoyed traveling to dog shows and spending time with friends in the dog show circuit. He was preceded in death by Jackson Keffer (Father), Laurita Richardson (Mother), Michael Richardson (Step-brother); Patrick Richardson (Step-brother). Reed leaves many loving memories with his wife, Cher; his brother in law, Terry Deyoe; and many other loving family members; as well as a large group of friends all over the world. Services for Reed Jack Keffer will be held on March 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church, Claremore, OK  with Pastor Dave Schwenk officiating. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Reed's name to the Christ Presbyterian Church, 2339 Holly Road, Claremore, OK 74017; Phone: (918) 342-5134. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service & Cremation Care. Family & friends may view the obituary and leave condolences at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
